Night Guards / Mouthguards

Night Guards

Many people suffer from nighttime teeth clenching and grinding, or bruxism. Most people who clench and grind their teeth at night are unaware of this destructive habit. Bruxism can lead to cracked teeth and can worsen certain conditions like gum disease. At Lumina Dental Spa , the wear patterns on your teeth will be evaluated for signs of bruxism, and a custom night guard may be recommended.

Mouthguards

Mouthguards are essential for any athlete. They protect your teeth and gums from injury. They also help lessen or prevent the severity of injuries associated with concussions caused by hits or blows to the jaws.

At Lumina Dental Spa , we create custom fit mouthguards to ensure a protective, comfortable fit.

Night Guard and Mouthguard Care

Regularly cleaning your night guard or mouthguard is important to good health. For cleaning and care:

  • Rinse your night guard or mouthguard in cool, running water after each use.
  • Soak your night guard or mouthguard in an effervescent cleaning solution, like Polident, as necessary.
  • Never scrub your night guard or mouthguard with toothpaste, as this will create scratches that harbor bacteria.
  • Store your mouthguard in a protective case.
  • Do not place your mouthguard in the sun or in hot water. Melting may occur.
